Third Period Explosion Propels Tigers to 7-1 Win Over Hornets

STONEY CREEK, ON — For forty minutes, it looked like a defensive chess match. Then, the floodgates opened.

The Stoney Creek Tigers (5-1-1) turned a tight one-goal game into a statement victory on Saturday night at the Stoney Creek Arena, exploding for five goals in the third period to rout the Cambridge Hornets 7-1.

Josh Pietrantonio was the catalyst for the Tigers all night. He opened the scoring halfway through the first period and, after Cambridge tied it on a late power play, restored the lead in the second period with what would stand as the game-winning goal. Pietrantonio finished the night with 2 goals and 1 assist.

Leading 2-1 heading into the final frame, the Tigers' offense went to work, overwhelming the Hornets with relentless pressure and outshooting them 43-25 on the night.

The top line continued their dominance, with Bo Webster (1G, 2A) and Andrew Whalen (1G, 2A) both posting three-point nights. The depth scoring also shone through as Josh Ranalli, Chris Knighton, and Paul Geiger (1G, 2A) all found the back of the net to seal the victory.

Goaltender Matt Sagrott was a rock between the pipes. He turned aside 24 of 25 shots, completely shutting the door on the Hornets after the first period to earn the win.

The Battle for First Place The win keeps the momentum rolling as Stoney Creek prepares for the biggest game of the season so far.

The Tigers will travel to the Harry Howell Arena this Thursday, December 11th, to face the Wentworth Gryphins. This is a clash of the titans—the top two teams in the Allan Cup Hockey League battling for undisputed possession of first place.
