Tigers Battle to Overtime, Secure Single Point in High-Scoring Thriller

ST. CATHARINES, ON — It was a night of high-octane offense and wild momentum swings at the Merritton Centennial Arena on Saturday, as the Stoney Creek Tigers (5-1-1-0) engaged in a heavy-weight tilt against the St. Catharines Saints. Despite firing a massive 53 shots on goal and holding a lead late into the game, the Tigers ultimately fell 6-5 in overtime.
While the result snaps the winning streak, the Tigers managed to secure a crucial single point in the standings, maintaining a slim one-point lead over Wentworth for first place in the league.
Webster and Madge Lead the Charge The Tigers wasted no time asserting their dominance. Bo Webster opened the scoring just 99 seconds into the first period (unassisted), setting the tone for a monster night. Webster would finish the evening with 2 goals and 1 assist, bringing his season goal total to five.
After the Saints tied it early in the second, the Tigers’ offense exploded. Dylan Madge found the back of the net twice in the middle frame—his fourth and fifth of the season—showcasing the depth of the Stoney Creek attack. Webster added his second of the night in the dying seconds of the period (assisted by Josh Pietrantonio), sending the Tigers into the second intermission with a commanding 4-2 lead.
A Third Period Battle The Saints came out desperate in the third, capitalizing on special teams. St. Catharines narrowed the gap with an early power-play goal, but Andrew Whalen responded quickly for the Tigers, restoring a two-goal cushion with help from Pietrantonio and Jeff Leaist.
However, penalty trouble proved costly down the stretch. St. Catharines struck again on the man advantage and managed to tie the game 5-5 with just 2:39 remaining in regulation, forcing the extra frame.
The Finish Overtime was brief, with the Saints completing a hat-trick performance just 35 seconds in to take the extra point.
Goaltender Daniel Svedin battled hard between the pipes, facing a barrage of 46 shots. On the other end, the Tigers' relentless pressure forced the Saints' netminder to make 48 saves, proving that the Stoney Creek offense remains the most dangerous in the league.
