Tigers Split Two Game Weekend Against Wentworth and Cambridge

The Tigers pushed through a two game week that showcased both their scoring depth and the fine margins that decide games in this league. Thursday brought a strong start that slipped away late against Wentworth. Saturday delivered the response the group needed on home ice.
Thursday at Wentworth
Stoney Creek came out sharp. Andrew Whalen opened the scoring three minutes in after clean puck movement from Bo Webster and Josh Pietrantonio. The Tigers controlled much of the night, putting forty six shots on goal and adding second period tallies from Pietrantonio and Mike Ruberto.
Wentworth climbed back with two goals late in the second, then tied the game midway through the third. Pietrantonio restored the Tigers lead with eight minutes remaining, but the Gryphins surged again with two late goals before adding an empty netter to close out a 6 to 4 final.
It was a reminder of how quickly games can turn inside the small confines of the Gryphins home rink, especially against a team built to counterpunch.
Saturday at Home vs Cambridge
The Tigers reset quickly and returned home with purpose. Cordell James opened the scoring by driving through traffic and finishing at the top of the crease. Shortly after, Dan Poliziani scored on the power play. Josh Ranalli added another to make it three.
Cambridge responded late in the period, scored again in the second, and pushed the pace, but Poliziani’s second goal restored the cushion and held up as the winner. The Hornets made it a one goal game in the third, yet the Tigers closed out the remaining minutes with structure and composure to earn a 4 to 3 win.
Daniel Svedin turned aside thirty five shots in his season debut and the Tigers offense spread across key contributors again.
