STONEY CREEK, ON — The Stoney Creek Tigers have jumped out to a perfect start in the first round of the Allan Cup Hockey playoffs, securing two straight victories over the Dundas Real McCoys this past weekend. Following a high-scoring statement win on the road Friday night, the Tigers returned home on Saturday to solidify their 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Game 1: Tigers Overpower McCoys in Playoff Opener
The postseason began Friday night at the J.L. Grightmire Market Street Arena, where Stoney Creek’s offense proved too much for the Real McCoys in a 9-4 victory. Despite falling behind 3-0 early in the first period, the Tigers remained composed and took over the game with a relentless four-goal outburst in the second frame.
Dylan Madge led the charge with the game-winning goal and an assist, while Mike Ruberto found the back of the net twice. Bo Webster and Andrew Whalen each recorded a goal and two assists, showcasing the depth of the Tigers' scoring attack. Daniel Svedin earned the victory in net, making key saves after the initial Dundas surge to allow the offense to pull away. Stoney Creek finished the night outshooting Dundas 46-33.
Game 2: Home Ice Success and a Special Guest
On Saturday night, the series shifted to the Stoney Creek Arena for a night that celebrated both playoff hockey and women's hockey excellence. The Tigers welcomed three-time Olympian Renata Fast for a special meet-and-greet, adding an extra layer of excitement for the home crowd.
On the ice, the Tigers continued their momentum with a 6-4 win. After a back-and-forth first period that ended in a 2-2 tie, Stoney Creek pulled away in the second with three unanswered goals from Josh Pietrantonio, Bo Webster, and Mike Ruberto. Ruberto’s goal midway through the game proved to be the winner.
Andrew Whalen sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final minute, while Paul Geiger and Josh Pietrantonio each finished with three points. Matt Sagrott was steady in goal, making 17 saves to earn the win as the Tigers outshot the McCoys 39-21.
The Tigers organization would like to thank Renata Fast for joining us and Matt Saddler for a fantastic rendition of the national anthem.
The series continues this coming weekend as Stoney Creek looks to maintain their perfect playoff record.
